The Association for the Promotion of Open Society (APOS) was established in Germany in 2015 to develop and foster the culture of tolerance, freedom, and democracy. The APOS aims to develop human rights and liberal culture in order to overcome barriers to expanding open society. The APOS mainly concentrates on political, economic, social, and cultural changes in Iran and works to increase public awareness as well as popularizing open society and democratic culture. As a German institution founded by Iranians, we are also interested in the assimilation and integration of Iranian immigrants in Germany.
A society’s progress depends on various factors. The accurate and scientific evaluation of such parameters can, on the one hand, signpost the problems and failures and, on the other hand, pave the way for satisfying the necessary conditions for transition to a better society. The existing body of human knowledge and experience, in fact, offers a trialled and tested process for development in various societies. They can be used as a road map for developing countries.
Our mission is defined in three chapters:
One, we seek to establish working relations with intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and social activists, particularly from the Middle East, who have a special interest in Iran affairs.
Two, we study and analyze indicators such as Quality Governance, corruption, and data factchecking for Iran to highlight the benefits of a free and democratic society.
Three, we are keenly interested to establish and strengthen working relations with thinktanks – primarily in the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe- to collaborate on projects focusing on the Middle East and Iran.
In addition, we contribute to the shared understanding of topics such as democratic dialogue, peace, security, and citizens’ self-awareness. Since our members are predominantly immigrants to Europe, we maintain interest in working on the theory and practice of immigrant’s integration in Germany in particular and Europe in general. The Association for the Promotion of Open Society welcomes collaboration with other institutions and organizations to achieve its goals and maximize the international efforts to spread and consolidate democracies and uphold human rights standards.
Since 2017 until now, the APOS is conducting a project about corruption in Iran, funded by National Endowment for Democracy (NED). In June 2020 the APOS has received a fund from one of the most well-known organizations in Germany, called Robert Bosch Stiftung. This project aims to increase the awareness of Farsi speaking people in Germany about Covid-19. Since 2022 we are in partnership with Atlas Network.
