“The 1979 Revolution Was a Historic Mistake”
Following the national uprising of Dey 1404 (December 2025–January 2026), a group of students from the University of Isfahan issued a statement declaring their support for the ongoing protests. The statement reads:
- On one side stands the history of Iran; on the other, future generations who will judge this moment. Silence and passivity today will be recorded tomorrow as complicity.
- The 1979 Revolution was a historic mistake, the cost of which Iranian society continues to pay. The order that emerged from it lacks both the capacity to govern and the legitimacy to represent. The continuation of this situation is neither reformable nor defensible.
- Standing against the people’s basic demands for rights, freedom, and dignity is no longer justifiable nor concealable. The artificial separation between government and the ruling system is merely a means of evading responsibility; the issue is a structure that denies the will of society.
- What is unfolding today is not a temporary protest, but the return of an unresolved historical question. Iranian society stands against an order that lacked legitimacy from the outset and has never achieved effectiveness.
- We call on the aware and responsible people to amplify this demand through collective, conscious, and protest-based participation. The right to protest belongs to society, and retreat in the face of denial is not our option.
🔻The university will not remain silent. This situation is being recorded, will be judged, and will not be forgotten.
