CDU Meeting with David McAllister

CDU Meeting with David McAllister

A significant meeting of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the federal state of Bremen was held on Thursday, 20 November, with the participation of David McAllister, Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), a Member of the European Parliament for Germany since 2014, Vice Chair of the European People’s Party (EVP), and Vice Chair of the International Democrat Union (IDU). McAllister attended the event as the special guest.

At this event, organized by IRANISCHE LIBERALE FRAUEN (ilfrauen) and hosted by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Association for Promotion of Open Society (APOS) and a group of Iranian opposition activists also participated, discussing Germany’s and Europe’s foreign policy toward the Islamic Republic during a Q&A session with David McAllister.

During the discussion, Sanaz Behzadi (APOS) highlighted the necessity of designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization by the European Union, and stressed the need for clearer support for Iran’s secular and liberal opposition — similar to the support extended to Israel. She underscored the importance of re-evaluating the current policy approaches.

Participants also emphasized the importance of direct dialogue with the national opposition led by Prince Reza Pahlavi and its role in shaping Iran’s democratic future.

David McAllister welcomed the issues raised and described such exchanges as essential and constructive for shaping the future foreign policy of both the EU and Germany. The meeting continued in an open and interactive atmosphere, during which McAllister addressed the questions and noted that concrete proposals and constructive recommendations would be considered for further follow-up.
