Jahangiri Family:
From Corruption to Close Connection with the Commander of the IRGC

Jahangiri’s family has always had a close relationship with Qassem Soleimani. To represent this, a picture of Qassem Soleimani’s New Year meeting with Jahangiri’s mother was published on Twitter and some websites. Previous articles have discussed one son’s corrupt activities, however Ishaq’s brother Mehdi Jahangiri is also found to be engaged in corruption.
Mehdi’s involvement in allegedly corrupt economic activities occurred during Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency. Mehdi established the private company “Cultural Heritage and Tourism Investment of Iran” (Semga) in 2008. With a capital of $20 million, he managed to establish six large subsidiary companies in a short term period..The formation of such companies in Iran is generally motivated by money laundering and pursuing non-transparent economic activities.
Despite its appearance as a private enterprise, Semga is essentially a government-backed entity closely associated with the Cultural Heritage Organization. Hamid Beqaei and Rahim Mashaei (the closest persons to president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) were present at the opening ceremony of Semga.
Under the management of Mehdi Jahangiri and with the support of his brother, Ishaq Jahangiri, Semga gained significant profit from the abundant government rents. Based on a contract, the responsibility of privatizing the companies of the Cultural Heritage Organization was delegated to Semga. Semga has many large companies, among them is the Tourism Bank.
Isaac’s support for his brother Mehdi is obvious. For example, during the 12th presidential election, Ishaq mentioned the tourism bank and considered the development of tourism as one of his successes.
However, the Rouhani administration at the time was intent on denying Es’haq’s support for his brother’s corrupt economic activities. Hesam Ashena, an advisor to then-President Hassan Rouhani, tweeted after Mehdi Jahangiri’s arrest that Es’haq should not be judged based on his brother’s actions.
Overall, the Jahangiri family has achieved many contracts and profits due to Ishaq’s position in the government. Profits and contracts that the private sector is deprived of.
