Shortly after the 1979 revolution, Ishaq Jahangiri started his career in the new government as Head of construction jihad. This was involved with road building, piped water, electrification, clinics, schools, and irrigation canals. He was then elected as a member of Iran’s parliament from 1984 until 1991. He was later appointed governor of Isfahan from 1992 until 1997.
Jahangiri can be categorized as a reformist politician. He has a close relationship with Mohammad Khatami and was a minister of Industries and Mines in his cabinet. In 2013, Jahangiri was appointed as the first vice president by President Rouhani after his inauguration. During the pivotal discussions around the 2021 Presidential election, attention turned to Ishaq Jahangiri and his involvement in questionable real estate purchases while holding public office. Stunning revelations showed that Jahangiri has bought properties at prices much lower than the market value. Mustafa Mirslim, a member of the Expediency Discernment Council, revealed that during his tenure as vice president, Jahangiri ignored Article 44 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran. An important framework that defines the principle of privatization. The object of Article 44 is conducting the privatization in Iran.
Further, Akbar Alami, a member of the 6th Parliament, said when Ishaq Jahangiri was the Minister of Industry in the cabinet of Khatami, he disbursed over 31 billion tomans (almost 38 Million USD) in bonuses to his subordinate managers as a special rent.
